082: The Brand ED Bullet, Issue 21
Robby: You're listening to the Brand
ED Bullet from the Brand ED Podcast.
Four freaky fast Friday wins to
get you going for your weekend.
Let's go.
Win number one, something to try.
Sometimes you need a great
color and you need it fast.
Say you're designing a lead magnet.
Maybe it's a social media post,
or you're just flushing out the
visual identity of your brand.
Anytime I need to pick a color.
I always head to coolors.co.
C O O L O R S dot C O.
If I'm in a real hurry, I'll hit explore
to see what's trending on the site.
Or if I find a picture with
colors that I like I'll use the
pickup pallet from the photo.
It's a really cool trick to pull a
color palette together from a photo.
You can check out my saved color palettes.
I'll put a link to that in the show notes.
I've used the site for years.
What's your favorite color tool
or trick when you're searching
for a palatable palette?
Win number two, something
a client recently asked.
A client recently asked for some
help understanding her brand.
She was honest enough to admit she
wasn't entirely sure how branding was
supposed to work across the board.
Like I said she was brave.
Most of us feel too ashamed to ask, or
we assume that we know enough about what
a brand is, but I was happy to oblige.
There's so much confusion,
misunderstanding, misapplication,
and missed opportunity out there.
When it comes to branding after
explaining what branding is, I walked
her through my three pillars of branding.
Number one is production.
It's something you produce
intentionally or unintentionally.
Everyone produces a brand.
Number two people it's owned in the
hearts and minds of the people who
interact with you and your business.
That's where your brand lives in.
Number three, purpose.
Branding is your opportunity to
differentiate from alternatives.
That's kind of positioning.
Given all the confusion what's one
question you would ask me if we could
talk about your brand Win number
three, something to think about.
Now be aware this one is a doozy.
I recently wrote this
question down in my journal.
And I'll invite you to ask
yourself the same question.
When you scroll through the carefully
curated photos of the best moments
of your friends and your colleagues
on social media, does it create
more joy, more contentment and
more gratitude for your own life?
Is that what's going on inside of you?
How do you wrestle with that question?
Win number four, something personal.
I'm at the stage of life where
it's often move in day, where two
of the kids head back to college
or come back home from college.
And every time we have to move one of them
back up to school, it greets me like a
cocktail of excitement, mixed with sorrow.
It's a dance of joy and of sadness.
I love the promise that this opportunity
in their life brings for my kids.
Who didn't love college, right?
But I don't love seeing them in my
rear view mirror when we head back
home or when they leave the driveway.
My wife, youngest son, and I always come
home with what I call the Memphis blues.
It happens every single time.
What's one great memory from your
years at college, I'd love to know.
I have some great ones.
