080: The Brand ED Bullet, Issue 19
Robby: You're listening to the Brand
ED Bullet from the Brand ED Podcast.
Four freaky fast Friday wins to
get you going for your weekend.
Let's go.
Win number one, something to try.
Ever feel like your creative
juices have dried up?
Well, why not roll some dice,
find some inspiration and
punch past predictable writing.
I want you to check out metaphor dice.
You heard me right.
Metaphor, dice.
You roll three dice, get a random
metaphor as you're writing prompt
and you're off to the races.
One testimonial on their website says
the dice provides a clever and effective
way for writers to make connections,
collaborate, and develop their ideas.
Now here's an example, you roll the dice
and you get father on one dice broken on
the second dice and mirror on the third.
And here's what you come up with.
My father is a broken mirror because
he's been shattered, but I can still see
myself in each of his thousand pieces.
Or perhaps you started an email
out to your list like this.
Having a personal brand website you don't
love is like staring into a broken mirror.
Imagine turning your website
into a proud doting father
who fills you with confidence.
What hacks do you use when you need a jolt
of inspiration for your writing Win number
two, something a client recently asked.
A client recently asked for
help articulating his offer.
Now, this challenge is
daunting for most of us.
So I assured him he was not
alone in feeling a little
fuzzy about how to describe.
His consulting business.
Now it's a bit dated, but the analogy
I often use is the yellow pages.
The question I helped
him wrestle with is this.
What would your ideal client
turn to in the yellow pages to
get help with their problem?
This shortcut can help you position
yourself using the same starting point
and language as your ideal clients.
Once you have their attention, you
can educate them more about the
deeper problems you help them solve.
I'll put a link in the show notes
to a helpful article about this.
If you've ever felt this same struggle,
trying to describe your offer, make sure
you get on my free training, waiting list.
I'll put a link to that
in the show notes as well.
Win number three,
something to think about.
I recently heard this quote about
potential on the excellent podcast.
Anthropocene reviewed.
Quote, “Only in the sense that
an alphabet contains a novel.”
That quote is about potential and
potential is an interesting concept.
What skill do you need to add to
next, draw out a novel from the 26
letters in the English alphabet.
The quote again.
Only in the sense that an alphabet
actually contains a novel.
Win number four, something personal.
I found a notebook with some notes from
an event I attended several months back.
As I glanced through the notes, here are a
few of the lessons that really stuck out.
Number one focus on what you can give
away, not what you can hold on to.
Number two, together as better so
seek out ways to partner with others.
And the third thing I saw in
those notes is be intentional
about defining your own success.
Don't get distracted by how others
in your same space define it.
what advice would you add
that you have learned of late?
I'd love to know.
